Creation of Model Water, Sanitation & Hygiene Secure Slums, Schools & ICDS Centres

Overview and Objectives

This project was initiated with an aim of Creation of Model Water, Sanitation and Hygiene secure slums in Hyderabad. The project was implemented in 7 slums of Hyderabad as listed below in the study area. The main objectives of the project:

  • Ensuring Equitable and Sustainable access to improved Water, Sanitation and Hygiene services in the intervention area
  • Empower people demand and realize their Water, Sanitation and Hygiene rights
  • Formation and Capacity building of Basthi Vikas Manch, School Management Committees, School Cabinets, Anganwadi (ICDS) trainers and community
  • Improved hygiene practices at with focus on handwashing, safe handling of water, menstrual hygiene management
  • Public and Political awareness through engagement with local urban local body (ULB) and public campaigns

    Expected Outcomes:
    People (communities) and children (schools and anganwadi centres) -
    a) Gain access to safe drinking water
    b) Have access to safe sanitation
    c) Practice improved hygiene behaviour
    d) Capacitated Basthi Vikas Manch demanding and realizing WASH rights
    e) Empowered frontline workers taking forward the agenda of safe WASH
    f) Secure WASH services in communities, schools and anganwadi centres as a result of sensitization meetings with relevant government departments
