The testament to this are the market and policy responses, which includes the fast emerging voluntary carbon markets and the Mangrove Initiative for Shoreline Habitats and Tangible Incomes (MISTHI) Scheme, declared in the Union Budget 2023..

The All India Mangrove Alliance for Climate and Conservation (AIMACC)


The All India Mangrove Alliance for Climate and Conservation (AIMACC), is an informal consortium of local communities, community organizations, practitioners, civil societies, grassroots organizations, scholars and researchers, academic and research institutes, social enterprises, enterprises, think tanks, associated with conservation of blue forests, biodiversity, coastal wetland habitats, and sustainable economic development of coastal areas of India. The alliance nurtures Public, Private, People and Planet Partnership (PPPPP) for conservation of blue forests and building resilience into the socio-economic and ecological systems of the coastal regions of the country. The informal consortium was formally conceived on the 17th January, 2023.


Conservation of Blue Forests and Associated Natural Habitats for Resilient Socio-Economic and Ecological Coastal Regions of India. Promotion of an integrated, participatory and collaborative restoration, conservation and protection of Blue Forests, coastal wetland ecosystems, and associated habitats for building a resilient into the socio-economic and ecological systems of coastal regions of India.


AIMACC believes in both individual and collective action and strength in socio-economic and ecological transformation. Acknowledging the power of individual and collective action in ceasing the opportunities and creation of new, addressing the systemic socio-economic inequalities and environmental problems, EIMACC strives to foster collaborations and nurture partnerships, because, together, we can triumph and transform for a better and sustainable future for all.


Overarching Objective of AIMACC


The overarching objective of AIMACC is contributing towards Mainstreaming of "Blue Forests" (mangrove forests, mudflats, salt and tidal marshes, seagrass meadows and coral reefs) conservation and sustainable development of coastal regions in India, through fostering multi-stakeholder partnerships, promoting multi-sectoral collaborations and adopting inter-disciplinary approaches.

 

Network Secretariat: South Asia Consortium for Interdisciplinary Water Resources Studies (SaciWATERs)


SaciWATERs is a not-for-profit based in Hyderabad, India. Since its foundation in 2002, SaciWATERs has been working to contribute towards Water-secure and Climate-resilient sustainable Ecosystems and Communities across South Asia. The emphasis is on innovative and social learning-focused action research ("research with an impact"), knowledge-based development, capacity building advocacy, and networking.
