Dr. N. Hanumantha Rao

Dr. N. Hanumantha Rao served as a Scientist in the Indian Council of Agricultural Research for forty years, first at IARI Delhi and later at NAARM Hyderabad in various capacities, including as Joint Director and Dean of NAARM. His research, teaching, and training activities and interests cover: Agricultural hydrology and water resources management; Climate change impacts on agriculture and water resources; Geospatial and information technology applications; Agribusiness management; and Institutional governance, strategy and leadership. His integrative research in water management at IARI has led to quantitative decision aids for sustainable irrigation planning, management and policy so that the overall productivity of water in the system can be improved. His research at NAARM in agricultural research and information management, has led to institutional policy frameworks and spatial databases and decision support systems for sustainable agriculture policies. He has initiated and launched post graduate education programmes in Water Science and Technology at IARI and in Agribusiness Management and Technology Management at NAARM. He has been a Principal Investigator of several research projects sponsored by DST, ICAR and World Bank. He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
