Mr. Avinash Kumar

Avinash Kumar has a background in urban and regional planning with a decade of consulting and research experience working mainly on advising central, state and urban local governments for sanitation investment planning and related policy development. He has worked extensively across cities of India, Bangladesh and Afghanistan to understand institutional processes, sectoral policies and service delivery intricacies to improve urban wastewater, solid waste management and water supply systems. Apart from consulting, Avinash has also supported in creating and delivering numerous capacity building projects in the sanitation space in these countries. He also has worked on land use planning initiatives like metropolitan master planning (while working on the Master Plan for the Hyderabad Metropolitan region) and planning for historic areas (while working on a Heritage Demonstration Project led by the World Bank in the Old City of Hyderabad). Outside consulting, Avinash has contributed as a visiting faculty at the School of Planning & Architecture at Hyderabad, where he has delivered three courses on Planning Legislation, Urban Economics and Sociology for Planners. He has also delivered a seminar course on Sustainable Cities for the National Law School of India University at Bangalore. His broad areas of interest include: - Human Decision Making in Planning & Policy (Behavioral Public Policy) - International Development, - Regional Development, - Institutional Economics, - Infrastructure Planning (focused on Water and Sanitation), - Urban Sustainability, - Public Finance.
