Protest Rally Against Manual Scavenging

Manual Scavenging is banned only on papers but not in practice. City municipalities themselves employ people (outside payroll) for scavenging in manholes, drains and gutters. Another 3 man died in Hyderabad cleaning a drain in Hi Tech City. They all belonged to the Wadar Community in Manekeswari Nagar, near Osmaniya University. A protest rally was organised on 14th August, 2016 by families of the bereaved and others from the slums to demand for banning Manual Scavenging all together and to provide proper compensation to the families of the bereaved. MP Hanumanth Rao, Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin and other politicians met the protesting people and assured them assistance.
