Strenghthening knowledge base of water professionals

The CB project provides fellowships to masters and Ph. D-level students pursuing studies in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in the Partner Institutions (PI). The South Asia Water (SAWA) fellowship, hopes to not only increase the number of incoming water management professionals with interdisciplinary and wholesome knowledge but also contribute to the gender balance positively. Therefore, there is a 75% quota provision for female students. The fellowship is a lively blend of classroom and field learning. To make in-class sessions even more interesting, innovative pedagogic teaching cases have been developed for use in classrooms in order to acquaint students with real life scenarios and feasibly ways of water management. Apart from internships and on the job training, the fellows are made to go through regular training programmes, imparted with an aim to introduce to them the nuances of Participatory Field Research Methodology as well as equity and other social issues in real life situations.

The SAWA fellows also carry out interdisciplinary research on various issues related to water resources management as part of their degree programmes. Research Coordinators in consultation with stakeholders, support and coordinate the SAWA Fellows’ research work in the PIs. Over 150 students have already benefited from the Fellowship and have gone on to work in various capacities in the water sector.

ToTs

Another feature in the CB education initiative is the support it gives to instructors and trainers through its Training of Trainers (ToTs). Providing an impressive array of workshops ranging from Field Research Methodology to Gender and Water, these sessions are meant to be refresher courses and to share experiences from their respective fields and classrooms. It is also an opportunity to interact with other trainers in the region.
